I'd like to see some statistics on hazard light usage. I'm guessing roughly 95% parking.

The only people who know how to operate my horn either own the same model of car, or asked. I don't think anyone's ever guessed right.

I like the hazard light discipline in mainland Europe of displaying your hazards to warn traffic behind of slow or stopped traffic ahead. Its one thing I very rarely see on the roads here in the U.K.

I don't think I've ever seen it, personally. I only know that that's what the big red button's supposed to be for because of the name, and The Highway Code.

The little-known purpose of the stick-like object, called "the metronome," is to keep you from speeding up or slowing down while performing karaoke in the driver's seat. For the entertainment of passers-by, most cars include "rhythm lights" on the outside so they too can sing along or snap their fingers in time. Fun fact; on many cars a blown-out bulb in one of the outside "rhythm lights" will cause "the metronome" to double its speed to 140 beats-per-minute, perfect for singing along with Dead Kennedys albums.

Its a shame it never really gets used for that purpose though. My dad once told me about 'light etiquette' of using the lights both front and rear to convey messages to other road users. I'm afraid I have forgotten almost all other than three brake lights flashes to warn cars behind of a speed trap area, when merging onto a motorway and a truck has moved over to let you on, once he's clear of the front of your vehicle to flash twice to thank him/her and let him/her back in lane so you can move round him/her to get on your way and alternate left and then right single indicator flashes to thank someone for letting you out of a junction or to merge into traffic flow.

Thats odd, Its quite common to use your hazards in the event of stopped traffic ahead here in Ireland.
Then again we over use our hazards here.

Back in New Zealand, it is common to use a couple of flashes of your hazards as a "thank you" to people who let you into a gap, or let you pass. I've always thought that to be a nice alternative to a possibly-misinterpreted wave.

I mostly use and see a single left and right indicator flash if its not possible or safe to raise my hand to wave thank you.

My car is very low and I use hazard lights when I need to go slow when driving over rail road tracks (I turn them on way ahead of time). People still honk and get mad. Fuck people.
